madmaxies:

hey everyone. so, if you’ve been on social media in the past 24 hours you’ve probably seen something about “black out tuesday” and you’re probably wondering “what is that?”

black out tuesday is a day where people are encouraged to donate to black owned businesses, support black owned businesses (by shopping there instead of elsewhere), donate to black lives matter groups & other black-focused groups doing community work, watch documentaries so they can educate themselves on how we got to this point in america and in their own countries, help black communities clean up (especially if you live in areas that were directly affected by all the rioting), and just provide actual, tangible help to black people and black communities.

for the past almost week, we’ve been protesting and rioting and sharing images of people being tear-gassed and maced and shot. all of our emotions have been on high alert. black out tuesday is meant to be a day to decompress from all that and provide actual change while we plan the next steps to turn this movement into something that’ll see permanent results. this is NOT a time to be silent, so don’t listen to posts you might see saying this is a counterproductive thing. also, PLEASE reblog this post so that others can see it. i need more people to better understand what today is about.

also: DO NOT TAG YOUR POSTS WITH THE BLACK LIVES MATTER TAG. it just clogs up the tag.
